XLSX files

Files with the .xlsx extension are spreadsheet files, commonly generated using Microsoft Excel. This format, introduced as the default for Excel versions from 2007 onward, employs XML for structuring data. It represents an evolution from the earlier binary-based XLS format, which was standard in older Excel versions. Notably, XLSX files do not accommodate macros, a security measure distinguishing them from the older XLS format. For macro support, the XLSM format is used.
